BYU Game

We went with the Young Men in our ward to the BYU football game this past weekend. It was Nelson's first. Richard really isn't a football fan, but he humors me by going. Nelson did pretty good at the game and really liked all of the clapping involved.
Two more days until my baby is 1....

I Believe in a Prophet Today...

The following are excerpts from a talk Neal A. Maxwell gave at BYU in October of 1978, and was printed in the February 1979 Ensign. It was entitled, "A More Determined Discipleship." Elder Maxwell certainly was speaking prophetically.

"Make no mistake about it, brothers and sisters, in the months and years ahead, events are likely to require each member to decide whether or not he will follow the First Presidency. Members will find it more difficult to halt longer between two opinions. President Marion G. Romney said, many years ago, that he had 'never hesitated to follow the counsel of the Authorities of the Church even though it crossed my social, professional or political life.'

"This is hard doctrine, but it is particularly vital doctrine in a society which is becoming more wicked. In short, brothers and sisters, not being ashamed of the gospel of Jesus Christ includes not being ashamed of the prophets of Jesus Christ. . . . Your discipleship may see the time when such religious convictions are discounted. . . . This new irreligious imperialism seeks to disallow certain opinions simply because those opinions grow out of religious convictions.

"Resistance to abortion will be seen as primitive. Concern over the institution of the family will be viewed as untrendy and unenlightened.... Before the ultimate victory of the forces of righteousness, some skirmishes will be lost. Even in these, however, let us leave a record so that the choices are clear, letting others do as they will in the face of prophetic counsel. There will also be times, happily, when a minor defeat seems probable, but others will step forward, having been rallied to rightness by what we do. We will know the joy, on occasion, of having awakened a
slumbering majority of the decent people of all races and creeds which was, till then, unconscious of itself. Jesus said that when the fig trees put forth their leaves, 'summer is nigh.' Thus warned that summer is upon us, let us not then complain of the heat."

Ninja or Chicken?

As I mentioned in my previous post, I bought Nelson his chicken costume the day after Halloween last year. Well, Richard had also gone out that day (we divided the stores up, so we could find the best deals) and bought Elvis and ninja costumes for Nelson (remember this was before he was even born - we really are die hard dress-up fans). The other day I looked at the Elvis costume and saw that it was a size 4 and then looked at the ninja costume and saw it was a size 1. Whoops! We had bought two costumes for one almost 1-year-old (yep, less than two weeks away)! So, I decided to get some use out of both.
The Saturday before Halloween we went to Boo at the Zoo, so Nelson wore his ninja costume there. He also wore it to our friends' Halloween/karaoke party. He wore his chicken costume to Trunk-or-Treat and out Trick-or-Treating (down our street).
I know that I am his Mom, but I thought he was pretty cute in both costumes. I can't decide which one I like better. The only complaint I had about the ninja costume was that when I took him to a couple of stores in it, everyone thought he was a girl. Even when I told them he was a boy, they still referred to him as a girl. They said he had pretty features... I think he is the most handsome pretty-boy I've ever seen.

Just got back from Trick-or-Treating with friend, Lucy. You can see he enjoyed a red sucker while Trick-or-Treating.

Other than all of this Halloween stuff, Nelson has been fighting a stomach bug. He goes in and out of having stomach problems, so we are trying to get that under control. Luck for us, it doesn't seem to bother him, he is as happy as can be... even while he is vomiting. Gross!
