10 Years, 2 Years, & 1 Sad Baby

10 Years!
On Friday, we headed out to Nevada for my 10 year class reunion! Yep, that's right, I graduated from high school 10 years ago! A LOT has happened in those 10 years. Maybe one day I'll reminisce about those 10 years but for now it is sufficient to say that it was great to see some of my high school friends. Some I hadn't seen since graduation, some I see every Christmas (holiday season), but it was still great to see them and catch up. Being from a graduation class of around 50 people, you know everyone and are interested in what everyone is doing these days. It was fun to hear about those who weren't able to make it. (Yes, that's one of my senior pictures up there.)


2 Years!
The best 2 years of my life! ;0) On Monday, Richard & I celebrated our two year anniversary. In lots of ways, it totally seems like longer than two years... but, of course, in a good way. We were traveling back from my hometown for most of the day, but we did get back in time to go out to dinner and do a little shopping. Since the gifts for the 2nd anniversary are cotton or china, I got new sheets for our bed and Richard got 1 GB of "name brand" memory for our computer (made in China). I know, how romantic?! At least we can check those things off of our list of things to buy!


1 Sad Baby
Nelson's 1st tooth popped out about a week-and-a-half ago, and it's been a bunch of "ouch" moments ever since. Yes, I have been in pain, but he has been in even more. On our trip, he had a horrible time sleeping and eating. Poor baby! He was just miserable for most of the trip and was not happy self at all. I knew it was probably more than just teething that was making him so sad, so I took him to the doctor's yesterday. He has an ear infection in his right ear. Now he is on an antibiotic and benadryl for his cough and stuffy nose. He slept through the night last night for the first time in five days. He was much happier this morning, and I cannot wait for him to get back to him smiling and laughing all day.

Tribute to All of the Nerdy Husbands Out There

My sister sent me this in an email. Being married to a nerd, I thought it was pretty funny... so did Richard! Enjoy!

Dear Tech Support,

Last year I upgraded from Boyfriend 5.0 to Husband 1.0 and noticed a distinct slow down in overall system performance - particularly in the flower and jewelry applications, which operated flawlessly under Boyfriend 5.0.

In addition, Husband 1.0 uninstalled many other valuable programs, such as Romance 9.5 and Personal Attention 6.5 and then installed undesirable programs such as NFL 5.0, NBA 3.0, and Golf Clubs 4.1. Conversation 8.0 no longer runs, and Housecleaning 2.6 simply crashes the system. I've tried running Nagging 5.3 to fix these problems, but to no avail.

What can I do?

Dear Desperate:

First keep in mind, Boyfriend 5.0 is an Entertainment Package, while Husband 1.0 is an Operating System. Please enter the command: 'I Thought You Loved Me.exe' and try to download Tears 6.2 and don't forget to install the Guilt 3.0 update.

If that application works as designed, Husband 1.0 should then automatically run the applications Jewelry 2.0 and Flowers 3.5. But remember, overuse of the above application can cause Husband 1.0 to default to Grumpy Silence 2.5

Whatever you do, DO NOT install Mother-in-law 1.0 (it runs a virus in the background that will eventually seize control of all your system resources).

Also, do not attempt to reinstall the Boyfriend 5.0 program. These are unsupported applications and will crash Husband 1.0 .

In summary, Husband 1.0 is a great program, but it does have limited memory and cannot learn new applications quickly. You might consider buying additional software to improve memory and performance.

We recommend Food 3.0 and Hot Lingerie 7.7.

Officially 6-months-old!

So, I've been saying for a couple of weeks now that Nelson is 6-months-old. Well, today he officially hit that milestone. To celebrate his half year of life, I chose some of my favorite pictures of him doing what he does best.

Two weeks before he was born! He stretched me out as far as he could!
One hour after he was born! He was born looking so cute!

He turned six-weeks-old on Christmas Day!

He goes through stages when he (re)discovers his tongue. He has a long one... so does his Dad!

He first rolled over at 3-1/2 months but, once again, goes through stages of when he wants to roll over... or not.

His first dress-up party was for St. Patrick's Day (4-months-old). He's definitely a natural with the dress-ups.

He started becoming interested in friends and sitting up at 5 months. Now he is a pro at making friends and sitting up by himself.

He loves all types of food now. He eats all kinds of cereals, veggies, and fruits. His favorites so far are peas and sweet potatoes. He's still warming up to the fruits.

His toes entertain him for hours (ok minutes)! I love that he can entertain himself!

A few more fun tidbits about him... at his 6-month check-up he weighed in at 17 pounds and was 28 inches long. He also is a great sleeper (at night). He usually sleeps from 9 pm to 7 am. He likes power naps (30 minutes top) during the day. The doctor said some babies are just that way. I cannot complain. I get a full nights sleep.

As you can tell, I love my little boy and am so proud to be his Mom. I cannot believe he is 6-months-old already! He is such a joy to have around!

Change, please!

CHANGE!

You know those times when you just need some change? You need to spice up your life a little even if it really is just something little. Well, I got to the point last week that I needed to feel like something was changing in my life. I finished the Book of Mormon and started to read the Doctrine & Covenants. I guess that is change and a good one. But, I also felt like I needed to change my look (hair in a ponytail every day just wasn't making feel too good about myself) and my surroundings. So, let me show you the changes I made.

Change #1: My hair! A shorter haircut and blond highlights are always good! I had talked about doing it for two months and finally did it. I love it!

Change #2: My kitchen! Okay, so I just added some vinyl lettering, but it really tied everything in my kitchen together and filled in a blank space that needed something.

Change #3: My downstairs bathroom! We went through a few ideas and came up with this. I couldn't get a good picture of it, but it is a beach scene. The picture says, "Down by the seashore." Then I put up a fish net and starfish. We added a tiki lamp and some seashells to finish off the look. I think it turned out cute!

Change #4: My front room! This is probably my favorite change. I have wanted the blue wall in my front room striped for a really long time. So, I told Richard I wanted him to stripe it for me for Mother's Day (you can't see the stripes really well because it is just a subtle gloss/matte contrast with the same color - it looks really good). I added some vinyl lettering and new pictures. I love it! I want a collage of pictures around the quote so as we get more and more pictures taken of our little family, it will fill in the blank spaces. Richard did an amazing job and what I envisioned with the wall really turned out nicely.

So, although the changes we small, they made me feel really good!
This week I am planting my vegetable and herb garden. And then, I am moving my creative mind upstairs to redo Nelson's bathroom and the loft!

Oh, and let me tell you, the best thing about these changes is the cost.
Haircut & highlights: $45 (Jackie's high school friend does hair out of her house in American Fork and is really reasonable.)
Vinyl lettering: $15
Bathroom decor: $20
Paint: $10
Pictures & frames: $10 (Thank you, Walmart $3 frames!)

For a grand total of $100, I changed a whole lot! And, feel really good in the end!

Mary's wedding

I am finally getting around to posting some of my favorite pictures that Mike took at Mary's wedding. It was great to see my extremely large family! And, my sister looked absolutely gorgeous.

Just wanted to wish all of the fabulous Mothers out there a Happy Mother's Day! I'm lucky enough to have my Mom up here today! I'm also lucky to be the Mom of such a great son!

Nelson & Food

So, it shouldn't be a surprise to anyone that Nelson loves food! Just look at those cheeks!
A little over a month ago we started him on rice cereal. He really took to it fast. It took him a couple of tries to like mixed grains, and he still likes it better when it is mixed with some rice. This past week (after we got home from the wedding - I'll post pics from that later) we started some veggies with him. He thinks green beans are okay but LOVES peas. I thought these pictures were cute of him with his peas all over his face.
He is growing up so fast! He is almost 6-months-old! I cannot believe it!
